N2 - Ontological security has recently become a subject of greater interest for those involved in PRS, and the concept of ‘home’ is seen to have greater prominence in debates around health. Security affects tenants’ rights, sense of control and well-being with significant – yet under-researched – outcomes and there is a power imbalance between landlord and tenant. Many living in the PRS lack security of tenure and may not exercise their rights, such as to repairs, fearing end of tenancy or retaliatory eviction. A sense of home in HMOs can be particularly challenging due to lack of control over shared spaces. Effects are felt across the life course, and security should be a key policy priority.
