Abstract

This chapter describes the role of schools in supporting healthy eating in children and young people by reviewing a range of international school policies and interventions in place to promote healthy eating, reviewing the purpose of such initiatives and their impact upon schoolchildren. We describe some of the challenges faced by schools in supporting healthy eating, and the requirements for successful implementation. Finally, we discuss the role of schools as part of a wider food system to benefit children and communities.
