Reynolds demonstrates that modern constructions of what is now Israel rely heavily on a mixture of political pragmatism – a by-product of imperial colonialism – and evangelical and fundamentalist Christian rhetoric. This chapter shows the degree to which a global image of Byzantium can undermine traditional images of Byzantine political protagonism.",
