Leopold Bloom is Not the Only Jew in Ireland

Research output: Contribution to specialist publicationArticle

Abstract

This article - which was published to coincide with Bloomsday - discusses Joyce's masterpiece Ulysses and its treatment of Irish Jews. However, it also reveals the broader history of the Jewish community in Ireland, and questions why, after Joyce, the community barely features in fiction again. In this way, it raises questions of anti-Semitism, cultural appropriation, analogy and fictional responsibility, as well as more general questions of literary tradition and the burden thereof.
