The League of Nations period

Research output: Chapter in Book/Report/Conference proceedingChapter

Abstract

This chapter addresses first initiatives regarding arms control and disarmament after the First World War through treaties concluded between States and through the institutional structure of the League of Nations. It is shown how the difficulty with reaching agreement between States stalled these disarmament and arms control efforts, and how limited the League of Nations success was. Efforts during this period have shown that disarmament cannot be pursued in a wholesale manner but only with regard to particular types of armaments.
