Abstract
In the marine environment, the massive amount of LNG cryogenic energy is wasted during the re-gasifying process. Seawater desalination is one of the preferable applications for the LNG cryogenic energy recovery on board. Among all the desalination technologies, the atmospheric water generator (AWG) and single-stage conventional distillation (SCD) are selected to be applied on LNG fuelled ships. Therefore, in this study, LNG is considered as the cooling medium to condense the water vapour in the moist air due to its low temperature. The feasibility of the LNG integrated with AWG and SCD are investigated in Siemens LMS Imagine. Lab Amesim separately. The performance of the two models is compared with the conventional cooling medium systems. The efficiency and the LNG cryogenic energy consumption of the two proposed systems have been promoted at least 40% in the condensation process. © 2020: The Royal Institution of Naval Architects.
