Abstract

This recording continues the exploration of music and late-medieval alabaster, two of the greatest exports of late-medieval England. It offers and exploration in sound, words and images of devotion during this period to St Katherine, one of the great martyr intercessor saints. Images reproduced and brought into dialogue with music on shared themes encompass some little-known images of the saint including an important and beautifully preserved polyptych in Venice. It also brings the dialogue of sound with stone up to date via a specially carved alabaster arm by sculptor Sarah Danays designed as a notional 'completion' of a St Katherine panel now lacking an arm in the Victoria and Albert Museum.
