Paul Jackson’s research interests include:

The creation, destruction and reconstruction of states, particularly in Africa
The nature of the liberal state and the politics of liberal state-building in post-conflict situations
Security sector reform and the relationship between security and development
External intervention in security issues, particularly US security policy towards Africa and AFRICOM
Governance and security

His current and recent projects include: Global Facilitation Network for Security Sector Reform (director); Sierra Leone: intervention and decentralisation (various projects); Decentralisation and conflict (Sierra Leone, Northern Uganda); Ghana evaluation methodology; Bhutan decentralisation; and the role of government in adjusting economies.
