Dr Lovleen Bhullar joined Birmingham Law School in September 2020 as Lecturer. Previously, she was a Research Fellow in Regulation and Antimicrobial Resistance at Edinburgh Law School. While pursuing doctoral studies, she taught Law and Nature (LLB), International Environmental Law (LLM) and Water Law and Governance (LLM/MSc). She is also an Editor of the Law, Environment and Development (LEAD) journal.

Dr Bhullar holds an LLB degree from the National Law School of India University, Bangalore, an LLM in Environmental Law (Distinction) from SOAS – University of London, and an MSc in Environmental Policy and Regulation (Distinction) from the London School of Economics and Political Science. Her doctoral research, funded by the Bloomsbury PhD studentship, examined the scope and limits of environmental rights litigation as a solution to the problem of water pollution in India. She is a former Commonwealth Scholar (2006-2007).

Dr Lovleen Bhullar is interested in the formulation and implementation of environmental law and policy. She has extensive research experience in the areas of law and policy relating to the environment, climate change, sanitation and water in India as well as environment-related rights at the international level and in India. In addition, she has worked on climate change and water governance issues in Southeast Asia. From 2018 to 2020, Dr Bhullar examined smart regulation of four specific pathways for the emergence of antimicrobial resistance in India. Her current areas of research explore aspects of environmental constitutionalism, and adopt a human rights approach to regulation of antimicrobial resistance.
