Owen Thomas leads the bioengineering team’s research into both how biological systems function and interact, and the development of new ways to exploit and artificially replicate these systems. There is currently a worldwide drive to use this new knowledge in a diverse range of applications. In biochemical engineering, the team are currently working on a number of fronts with the aim of exploiting biological molecules, cells and tissues to develop a range of high-value products.
Professor Thomas can supervise doctoral research in the fields of biopharmaceuticals, particle 'seeding' methods, magnetic separation and enzyme crystallisation.
