Mike Hannon's research interests cover anti-cancer metallo-drugs, bioinorganic chemistry and chemical biology. His group are exploring synthetic nanosized cylinders that bind strongly in the major groove of DNA or at DNA junctions and which induce remarkable intramolecular DNA coiling that is unprecedented with synthetic agents. This offers the possibility of coiling and immobilising specific genes. The work is underpinned by a programme on design of sophisticated metallo-supramolecular nanoscale architectures in one-pot reactions from commercial agents. Professor Hannon's group offers opportunities for doctoral research in the following areas:
